Engineering in Cambridgeshire

The traditional picture of Cambridgeshire does normally allow for a large population of engineers and indeed the classic forms of engineering are not a major part of the area's economy. However there is a thriving culture of high precision engineering in the region including strong areas of computer engineering research and Bio-medical engineering. This is mainly due to the University of Cambridge which has one of the largest integrated engineering and research departments in the whole of Europe, approximately 10% of the students at the university are studying engineering and it is thanks to them and particularly their research that Cambridgeshire enjoys a reputation as a world leader when it comes to high technology engineering.
